2016 BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner – Review

With over 2000 applications from 84 countries around the globe, the jury members had their work cut out for them. But after successfully narrowing down the selection to ten outstanding finalists, the suspense was palatable as the winner of the 2016 BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner was announced at the celebratory award ceremony held during the BLOOOM, the converging art show at ART.FAIR in Cologne, on October 26.

Amidst all this talent, the German video artist Matthias Danberg won over the jury with his masterful video installation “Sculptures”, which captivates the audience with spherical music introducing an abstract landscape as the action slowly unfolds across time and space with transhumanic sci-fi figures evoking classical, contemporary and futuristic imageries. Featuring elements of a printable firearm in a diverging context, Swiss artist Rahel Zaugg took second place for her 3-D printing creation “Liberator – Parts of Defense,” while third place winner, Femke Huurdeman from the Netherlands, struck a lighter note with her playful video installation “Pippin and the Pursuits of Life.”

Unbenannt

Now in its seventh year, the BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner has evolved into Germany’s biggest open art competition for emerging artists from around the word. The award provides at its core a stepping stone for the young art community, helping creative minds to break into the highly competitive art market. As such, the first place prize includes mentoring support for one year, a trip to Art Basel Miami Beach as well as a gallery exhibit. And let’s not forget the tremendous exposure to art collectors, gallerists and the art-loving public in general. By showcasing their works at the BLOOOM art show, the BLOOOM award introduces the finalists to more than 36,000 art-loving visitors.

A longstanding supporter of the arts and proud patron of this ground-breaking art competition, Warsteiner congratulates the winners of the 2016 BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner for their outstanding works. Let’s take a moment and enjoy the 2016 winners: http://www.blooomawardbywarsteiner.com/top10_en
